Cure Violence
Creating Brand Clarity and Consistency

F or more than 15 years, Cure Violence has successfully worked to reduce violence in some of the most violent communities in the United States and around the world. It has done so by viewing the problem of violence through a public health lens and using a scientific approach to preventing it.

Public health is one of the medical specialties with the greatest number of major achievements, but it’s also nearly invisible. It labors — quietly — to develop approaches that make major health problems disappear. Public health is responsible for longer lifespans, the infrequency of childhood deaths, and the near elimination of many infectious diseases. That last achievement, in the field of infectious disease, is the category to which “curing violence” belongs.

Cure Violence’s work continues to show strong results. From Baltimore to South Africa, the influence of its public health approach continues to mount, and more than 10 external independent evaluations testify to the success of its approach. But the Cure Violence brand wasn’t in-line with the success of the organization or its important work.

By Design Partners helped Cure Violence bring clarity and consistency to its branding. Work to date includes building on the previous branding by extending the existing color palette; introducing a new grid to all print collateral; refining the typography; and the design and production supervision of its annual report, overview brochure, research papers, and special reports. The new Cure Violence look is fresh, clean, and elegant.
